I was introduced to digital marketing roughly 2 years back, when I got a new job with a genetic testing company.
At that time I had no idea that there was a parallel universe by the name of digital marketing where time seems to run faster than in the physical world.
To me search engines were just a place to browse movie showtimes, good cafes, books or clothes. I never imagined it to be a tool for marketing, that too a strong one.
When my mentor in my new job started talking about this, I did not understand the full capacity of digital marketing. I just thought he made me do this to keep me occupied until I get started on the “real” job (frankly, I had no clue what that was either).
Such was my abrupt entry into the world of search engines, web design, coding, and social media.
How many of you thought search engine optimization was absurd when you first started? Why should I optimize my blog article for Google? If I write a great piece of content with flowery language, and good humor everyone is going to love it.
I was there too.
Some brutal numbers jerked me to my senses. Take a look at these:
As of December 2018, there are 4.1 billion internet users in the world.
49% of all internet users in the world are from Asia.
Over 4 million blog posts are published everyday.
There were 342 million registered domain names at the close of Q3 in 2018.
Do you still think you can rise above the crowd armed only with your Shakespearean skills? If so, good luck. And, if you do succeed please do let me know how you managed in the comment section below.
I rather not. I have gone the Google way before, and have seen results. Why rebel when money is handed to you on a gold plate by the name of “internet marketing”?
For all those who share my thoughts hang in there as I take you through my journey in digital marketing.
Let’s get started.
